Thermal Imaging

Power+ Ltd is proud to offer our clients Thermal Imaging which is the very latest service being demanded by maintenance professionals. Because it is a predictive maintenance system it provides a rapid means of identifying problem areas and locating faults that are not detectable using conventional methods.

As there is no surface contact Thermal Imaging surveys can be carried out under normal working conditions with minimal or no disruption to staff or interruption of plant operations. Our thermographically trained staff measure the temperature of anomalies with hotspots or coldspots giving an indication of fault severity.

This allows remedial work to be prioritised and a response by a maintenance team can be scheduled. Thermal Imaging is a valuable tool for predictive maintenance, rather than reactive maintenance.

Electrical

Checking electrical circuitry will reveal anomalies (hotspots). Once identified Power+ Ltd., can then advise on what further action needs to be taken. This may provide cost savings through energy efficiency, or the avoidance of potentially dangerous situations such as fire hazards. Typical causes are loose connections, overloaded circuits or imbalanced phases.

Mechanical

Identifying anomalies (hotspots) on motors and other machinery can help prevent failure of bearings or other critical components. This allows the scheduling of remedial maintenance and avoids costly breakdowns and unscheduled downtime.

Buildings And Specialist

Our trained thermographer can provide advice on the integrity of buildings, e.g. reporting on poor insulation, air leakage, damp, flat roof leaks, cold store leaks etc.

So, What Exactly Is Thermal Imaging?

The procedure involves the surveying of electrical, mechanical or structural parts of a building by viewing otherwise invisible thermal radiation with specialist equipment.

The equipment used by Power+ Ltd. thermographers is the latest device from Raytek, the Thermoview Ti30, which fulfils all our requirements. This portable handheld device operates in a 0-250 degrees range, has 19,000 pixels and is sensitive to 7-14 microns. It can also hold up to 100 before download.

The Thermoview device works by transposing the temperature reading taken in each of its 19,000 pixels in its field of view and converts it into a thermal image on screen. The focus distance can provide accurate images from 600mm to infinity and is ideal for predictive maintenance.

These images are then stored before being downloaded to specialist analysis software, after which the client’s advisory report is prepared.

Why Do I Need This Service?

The very nature of analysing heat anomalies in your premises means that you are alerted to possible fire risks and component failure, which subsequently saves your company money which would otherwise be spent on business interruptions or claims on insurance.

Thermal Imaging is not a statutory requirement but many insurers, risk managers and building maintenance personnel are now recognising its significant contribution in planned and predictive maintenance not otherwise recognised in statutory obligations.

How Long Does This Take And Is There Any Disruption To The Workplace?

There is very little or no disruption to the workplace as the time taken to survey the site is relatively short. But, for the survey to be successful all services within the workplace need to operting in their normal state.

Although the actual survey time is relatively short the real skill lies in the interpretation of results. Our thermographically trained staff will provide you with a full thermographic report. This report will detail all the anomalies found during the survey and, if required, images of all areas surveyed, irrespective of hotspots or not.

At Power+ Ltd. Thermal Imaging survey can be arranged at your convenience, either during or outside of normal working hours. The cost of the survey will depend on the type required which will be assessed thoroughly by our representative in consultation with you.

For more information an informal chat or for a fixed quotation please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our dedicated and skilled staff will only be too pleased to answer any queries you may have either on thermal imaging or on any other electrical testing service we can help you with.
